Works save? Rubbish

I can tell you this though, works don't get you to heaven but the lack thereof may keep you out, according to this scripture.

So basically, what you're saying with this sentence is that works really do get you to heaven.

Actually, it was Jesus that did the saying, inquire with Him at 1-800-The -Judge

Heidi:You have not asked me any questions!!!!!! Therefore, I respectfully request that you answer mine and if you have any for me then ask and I will answer. Take care.

You've seen my questions. In answering my questions, you will find the answer to the question you posed to me. :)

It's a funny thing. The things I do for the Lord are done with my left hand without the right hand knowing what the left hand is doing. Therefore, how can anyone say he does good works unless he keeps track of them? And if he keeps track of them, how is that not boasting? Why even focus on works? Why are they even called works? That's like me saying it's work to love people! And as Paul said; the law can be summed up in one word; love. So how is work involved in anything that comes from grace? :o

Too much emphasis on works and not enough on Christ - cant' be a good thing. You have to wonder where the works are coming from if the emphasis are on the works themselves and not the one performing the work in you :sad

You got that right. :) I can really sense the Spirit in you, Merry.

No, I am not saying that works get you to Heaven. Gee, what does a person have to do to make people understand that nothing good that I do will get me to Heaven? But I don't want wood and stubble when I get there either.

So which is it...'not' doing works stops you going to hell

or

Doing good works get you to heaven.

Can't you see the oxymoron here?

I would like to ask what does the 25th chapter of Matthew mean to you folk who think you have to do nothing for the Lord?
I'm beginning to think that OSAS people really have no true committment to Christ. I'm reminded of people who won't work for a living and want a free ride. There are not going to be a bunch of hand outs to get into Heaven.
Are you trying to convince people that they believe works get you to Heaven? I have not heard one person say that. I can tell you this though, works don't get you to heaven but the lack thereof may keep you out, according to this scripture.

Where did anyone say we have to do nothing for the Lord????? What we are saying is that once we are born again of the Holy Spirit, our "works" come from love, not work! I repeat; our works come from love, not work. It is the Holy Spirit that enables us to do good things out of love.

Phil. 1:6, "he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Who do you think began a good work in us and carry it on to completion? :o Why do you think that God will let you down or that you or the devil are stronger than God to keep from doing good works?

John 4:4, "You dear children have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

"Ye of little faith." When someone heals us of blidnness, who gets the credit for our ability to see? And once we see, who could ever choose darkness again? That's why Jesus said; "No one can snatch them out of my hand."

But the ones who believe without the root of the Holy Spirit will fall away because they never had any root to begin with. They are the false teachers who build their houses on sand.

But there are many, many people who call themselves Christians who try, by their own effort to do good works because they think that works save. What they don't realize is that anyone who is ruled by the Holy Spirit cannot help but do good works because "the one who is in you is greater than the one in the world."

How many Sundays do we have to go to church? What if we miss 1, 2, or 3? Who decides? How many people do we have to help? 20, 100? 1,000?
How many Sundays? Try Hebrews 10:25. How many people do we have to help? Try Galatians 6:10. There are God's answers to your questions. I would still like you to answer my question point blank. There are different views on what I asked you and I want yours. You have not addressed this in any of your post and I don't want to assume anything. So please, would you provide an answer to the following question. Is baptism our work we do to earn salvation?

Do you believe you can lose your salvation?
If one believes they can lose their salvation then there are works included in your journey to glory.

You did not answer my question. Where is those passages does it tell us we are not saved if we miss meetings? :o How many times can we miss? Again, what is the magic number when we will be snatched out of Christ's hand which contradicts his words. Do you know what "everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial" means? :o

Baptism is not a work. It's an expression of our love for Christ and desire to repent. Do you consider it work to thank someone from rescuing you from a burning fire? If that person asked you to give him a hug in thankfulness would you consider that work? Or would it be simply a reflection of your thankfulness?

While I'd like to make a longer contribution to the topic, today is the Sabbath (Saturday morning, Sth Pacific time) and I must not miss church since my salvation depends on it. It sure is a drag to have to get out of bed every week when I so often don't want to. But, some things we've just got to do so as not to offend God. See ya.

Exactly!!!!!

No I don't believe that you can lose your salvation, however I do believe that you can walk away from God on your own free will. I am not a prisoner and He will not keep me where I don't want to be.

But if you 'don't want to be' there then you're not the Lord's sheep.

Remember God gives us His desires - as christians we desire to be where God wants us. If one was to choose to walk away becasue they don't desire to be there anymore - then I question if they were ever there to begin with.

Merry- When I wrote that I thought maybe I shouln't put that in the first person. I think you know that I wasn' talking about myself. I love the lord.

Anyhow, Maybe you have never been in that position or known anyone who has. Where they had given themself to the Lord and then turned away from him. I have seen it happen and it has happened in my own life. You don't worry about it as long as you walk in the Lord but sometimes people get lacks in their walk and start drifting from the Spirit and after awhile you just live like you did before you ever known the Lord.

Von I know you're not talking about yourself.

And yes I know people who 'seemed' to know the Lord and then turn away. But the bible tells us that when they go away they make manifest that they were never one of them to begin with.

So you don't believe Jesus when he said "No one can snatch us out of his hand." Is that correct? :o Sorry, but neither we nor the devil is stronger than the Holy Spirit. You must also not believe that "the one who is in you is greater then the one who is in the world." Nor do you believe that "My sheep know me and I know them. They listen to my voice." I do. Those who walk away are obviously not listening to Christ's voice so they cannot be his true sheep now can they? :)
