Fixing sin

As Christians how do you tackle this sin nature you have. Also how do you deal with other people when they reveal their sin nature to you?

Do you ever resolve such "Sin" problems?

The specifics of my sins are what I don't deal with too well. They are either embarrassing or worth being condemned. But in general they show me to be something I've thought of myself in other times of my life. To being a failure. This isn't something I've handled very well. So the specifics are also something I usually don't share with others. Sorry if you want more detail later on. All I'd like to say is a general discription of the sin without giving the details of how it happens. (Think of the General discriptions of the seven deadly sins verses going into discriptions of what a person actually did or does.). I don't always want to give the general discriptions either. Sorry.

hi

that's the essence of Christianity

resisting the temptations of the flesh and trying to walk in the obedience of the Spirit

when ever we make mistakes and fall the key is to get back up, confess our sins and move on

Christianity is trail and error it is not easy and its one of the hardest challenges in life

I think this verse sums up the majority of our personal relationship with Jesus

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Luke 9.23

it is a transformation process and just 1 day at a time

i hope this helps

Peace

That's a very nice reply, you seem very mature about this subject. I remember telling some Christians about my "Sins" once, I'll never do that again. But you sound like one in a million Reba.
I am taking from what you said above that you had a bad experience.

If that's the case I am sorry you had that experience.
We live in an imperfect world with imperfect people and that also includes Christians.

I think with me when I get it wrong myself I feel a sense of conviction, not condemnation (which I used to).
The Holy Spirit convicts me and by convict I mean he says "Hey come on fella you didn't quite get that right did you?

I hold my hands up and say "Sorry I didn't please help me"

With regards to people who come to me to talk about issues they are struggling with l firstly say "Remember there is no condemnation for those who are Christ"

I set myself aside and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what is going on and why, go beyond the superficial and look at the reasons causing the reaction.

One thing I hold onto for me and others is this

Romans 8:28-29

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

God even works in me and my sins and in a sense works good in order to conform me to the image of Christ.
As that happens my sin nature decreases and Jesus increases.

Just my simple thoughts

It's easy WarZero.

You don't tackle it.
What happens is that one day you realize that God is real.
Then you start to understand about this idea of Jesus dying for you.
It sounds a bit like nonsense before this.

When this happens, you start to love Jesus for what He did.
Then you just don't want to sin and hurt His feelings.
But we always will because the sin nature is put under submission, but it's still there.
It just cuts sinning down a lot.

We start to understand God's love for us.

Wondering you and Reba said it best. No need for me to state anything. Thank

I struggle, with God's help, to replace habitual, toxic, self-destructive behavior with life sustaining behavior as prescribed by the Bible.
It takes time and persistence and perseverance, prayer and reading of scripture.

We all suffer from the self-centeredness that is the general issue of the so-called "sin nature."
The way to deal with it in others is to obey God's command to love one another. And that takes practice so, we keep practicing until we get good at it. (But we never stop practicing.)

Much of your to do list that is posted is scriptural, however it doesn't give a Believer victory over sin, the world, the flesh and the Devil. Only the "Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2)", gives the Believer victory:

Victory over the world: Galatians 6:14 ; 1 John 5:4
Victory over the flesh: Galatians 5:24
Victory over the devil: Hebrews 2:14 ; Colossians 2:15

The Law Of The Spirit Of Life In Christ Jesus is the will of God's only prescribe order of victory for every born again Believer. It simply means that the Believer must place and maintain Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross, i.e., Finished Work., i.e., the Blood of Jesus.

The Holy Spirit works exclusively within the legal confines of the Finished Work, i.e., the Cross of Christ, i.e., the Blood of Jesus, which guarantees the help of the Holy Spirit, which guarantees Victory.

If the Believers doesn't understand or attempts to live for God by any manner other than Faith in Christ and the Cross, he is doomed to failure. This places the Believer in the law of sin and death which is sin. For whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

I never suggested that it did.
The Christian life is one of constant repentance.
Christ had victory over sin and we reap the benefit of that victory if we are faithful to follow Jesus.

Jesus says in John 15 verse 5b that without Him we can do nothing. Now the sin nature cannot be handled or put to check or ruled over except you get the help of God.

That was the reason for Jesus' sacrifice. so anyone who wants to rule over the sin nature must first become born again.

Now the second stage is that you will need the help of the Spirit of God. you must be baptized in the Holy Ghost. This is the reason He came - to help you live the Christian life the way God wants it. You must value a relationship with Him above any other relationship because it's Him that can make those other relationships to be useful and Godly.

Now you need to have a prayer schedule. Prayers allow you to consistently take of the nature and qualities of God consistently - a powerful experience that can always help you to rule over the sin nature.

When you are struggling with a sin problem, dont hide it from God. he knows anyway even if you have not told Him. He is the one who can help you, so be open to Him, tell Him you are struggling with it. He will arrange help in His own way for you.

Have a regular bible study time. Contents of the bible are spiritual and have the powers to spiritually help you against the sin nature. Ruling over sin is deeply a spiritual issue even though we have tried today to not to make it so and that's the reason lots of people are struggling with it and allowing it to rule over them. You have become a master over it according to the scripture, you are to Lord your rule over it. That mentality will always help you to rise and do something spiritual about it each it tries to floor you; you wont give in or give up.

Encourage those who own up to you about their sin nature. Lead them to Christ if they have not become born again. Show them the contents of this post. Tell them they dont have to have to harbor guilt and condemnation. God loves them still and wants to help them. They took the first great step by owning up; God loves this and He is always ready to help.

First off I was taught that only God can decide what is "sin" and what isn't,anybody else calling people "sinners" or calling actions "sins" are assuming His role.

That would be a "sin" unto Him for that you get blotted from His book meaning that you don't get into Heaven.

But addressing your question, the world is evil...it belongs to satan,in order to NOT be part of it I had to lock myself in a apartment for 20 yrs.

For some these are the extremes necessary to not be corrupted by this world.

I'm kinda mental though so there is that.

First off I was taught that only God can decide what is "sin" and what isn't,
Scripture defines sin in multiple places so that we can know what it is.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
anybody else calling people "sinners" or calling actions "sins" are assuming His role.
That is nonsense.
If someone tells a lie and I know it's a lie, I also know it's a sin.
If someone is a habitual drunkard, I know that person is a sinner.

!!! :shock
Why?
Christ has overcome the world. (Jhn 16:33)
And Greater is He who is in you (Christ) than he who is in the world. (Satan.)( 1Jo 4:4)
And the gates of hell cannot withstand the assault of the children of God. (Mat 16:18)

Habitual drunkards are "sinners"?

"Sinners" don't get to Heaven?

Where'd those saints that were drunks go after they died?

You probably also think that only your race is going to Heaven right?

Where does it say that being a drunkard is a "sin"? admittedly I don't know much about the Bible but I do know some.

The only parts concerning being drunk say something about being sober while being judged,a drunk can see the end approaching and sober up to be judged ... I did.

And I think the main one actually concerns incest and the depravity of some females.

These 2 sister's got their father drunk so that they could rape him, I believe that was right after they left either Sodom or gomohra sorry for the spelling.

You kinda backward ain't ya?

That's OK don't be ashamed it seems that most "christian" is backward, they think that regurgitating scripture and passing judgement like you do is what makes them Christian NOT virtues like kindness and understanding.

That's OK because God is giving you one last chance to see the error of your ways.

Have a great day!

Where does it say that being a drunkard is a "sin"? admittedly I don't know much about the Bible but I do know some.
Here are a few references I found rather quickly and there are many more.

Ephesians 5:8
Ephesians 5:17
Galatians 5:21
1 Corinthians 5:11
1 Corinthians 6:10
Isaiah 5:11
Isaiah 5:22
1 Timothy 3:8
Titus 2:3
Romans 13:13
Leviticus 10:8-11

Habitual drunkards are "sinners"? "Sinners" don't get to Heaven?
That's what scripture says.
1Co 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Where'd those saints that were drunks go after they died?
Heaven. They were NO LONGER drunkards. Saints are people who have repented of their sins and been born again.
You probably also think that only your race is going to Heaven right?
?????? What has that to do with anything?
Or are you just trying to be insulting with that asinine statement?
The human race will be the only race in the kingdom of heaven.

Where does it say that being a drunkard is a "sin"?
Gal 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
admittedly I don't know much about the Bible
You kinda backward ain't ya?
When you have learned a great deal more about that Bible from reading it over and over, you will know the answer to that question.

I also believe in the creator, but it is one which has reveled itself to me.
I've tried to pair my super natural experiences with many other faiths, but it's hit and miss.
I don't believe I've ever seen this and answered it.
I'm sorry if I haven't.
I don't know what you mean by supernatural experiences and something being hit and miss.

Now, the Almighty God might be a force of nature and an it, I'm not saying no to that. It's just that Jesus revealed God as a human being and I tend to call God a He. I think of Jesus when I think of God.

But Jesus is the 2nd person of the Trinity.
God is the 1st and all encompassing. Maybe "it" is right? Who can know for sure??

What a sad thread.
Love wins the victory over sin . What greater love than God Sending His Son so that all who accept will be forgiven. How can anyone not want to return that lovr and forsake sin. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin. I battle with mine one at a time. We have a wonderful example on how Jesus lived. I hope you find what you are looking for.
