As if it isn't bad enough that people are suffering in Hell in a perpetual state of torment, they're enduring it as their selves; viz : they are never going to be free from their own personalities— their feelings, their impulses, their appetites, their phobias, their hang-ups, their attitudes, their needs, their inhibitions, their emotions, their tendencies, their propensities, their reactions, their passions, their ego, their memories, and their inclinations.

Hell is even more of a hell than you might think because people take who they are right along with them down there. Thus; suicide is not a good way to relieve depression. Depressed people take that depression right along with them to the other side; and their sorrow is even more intensified in fire when they realize that as bad as things were up here on the surface, their situation up here wasn't nearly as bad as their situation down below in the netherworld.

People can escape poor health via death, they can escape credit card debt, they can escape an abusive spouse, they can escape taxes, they can escape a physical handicap, they can escape tyranny, they can escape war, they can escape pimples, they can escape poverty, and they can escape the Mafioso; but they cannot escape their selves. Without undergoing a re-genesis about which the Lord spoke at John 3:3-8, then they, and the person they are now, remain joined at the hip . . . forever, and ever, and ever.

I have never, ever liked being me. All my life I've wished I were someone else. If heaven offers a chance to start all over from scratch and be someone with whom I can be at peace, then I'm all for it; 110%.

In my opinion, it's a fool who would take their chances in court with the Bible's God. The process is very thorough; with no plea bargaining nor leniency for first time offenders; no mitigating circumstances; no time off for good behavior nor possibility of parole— the scales of justice have to balance : eye for eye, tooth for tooth, bone for bone, skin for skin, injustice for injustice, abuse for abuse, burning for burning, bruise for bruise, dollar for dollar, curse for curse, etc : even every thoughtless word that men speak will be weighed in the balances; not just their serious words.

†. Mtt 12:36-37 . .But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every idle word they have spoken. If you cannot be adjudged innocent by your words, then by your words you will be condemned.

The Bible sometimes labels justice as recompense; which Webster's defines as : an equivalent, or a return, for something done, suffered, or given; viz : compensation.

People will even be recompensed for all the things they did in secret when they thought no one either knew or was looking.

†. Heb 4:12-13 . .For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Every transgression will receive a fair and equitable amount of retribution.

Let me give you a rough idea of just how bad punishment for every violation and disobedience is really going to be.

Supposing the penalty for a lie is 5 lashes and the accused has 200 counts of lying against them. That means that each count will receive 5 lashes, adding up to 1,000 lashes for those 200 lies. But that's only the beginning.

Suppose the penalty for using God's name in profanity is 30 lashes, and that same offender's lifetime accumulation is 500 counts of blasphemy; which isn't an unreasonable number of counts for someone who lived to be sixty or seventy. They would be given 30 lashes for each of those 500 counts; adding up to 15,000 lashes on top of the 1,000 they already received for 200 lies.

But then supposing the penalty for defamation of character is 15 lashes and that same offender, over the years-- via gossip, demeaning comments, arbitrary accusations, rumor mongering, kangaroo-court convictions, and thoughtless remarks --impugned innocent reputations a total of 85 times. They would receive 15 lashes for each count, adding up to a total of 1,275 lashes. So then, for just those three sins alone, that one offender would be given a grand total of 17,275 lashes.

It gets worse. Offenders who knew at the time that what they were doing was wrong, will be punished much more severely than those who did so uninformed.

†. Luke 12:47-48 . .And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes.

In reality then, long life can be a curse rather than a blessing, and for some people, it would have been far better if they had died as a child than to face God as a senior citizen. By the time the condemned are carried out of from the Great White Throne to be discarded in the reservoir of flaming liquid spoken of at Rev 20:11-15, they will look as though they were dragged through a field of concertina wire and then dropped into a cotton gin.

It's very likely then that many will not only have their flesh flayed open; but suffer a number of broken bones, paralysis, blindness, deafness, and loss of their capacity to speak intelligibly; because for some offenses, it takes way more than a whipping to set things right.

The lesson here is; just because somebody wears their collar on backwards is definitely not an eo ipso indication they'll make it to safety when they cross over to the other side.

The focus in that passage is not the so-called rapture; but rather the Lord's return in person to rule the world. The "taken" people described above are destined for a terrible fate because before taking the reins, the Lord will to do a sweep first.

†. Mtt 13:47-50 . .The kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but discarded the bad. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (cf. Ezk 20:33-44 and Mtt 25:31-46)

The sheep and goats judgment takes place on the earth when Christ returns to rule the world (Mtt 35:31) while the Great White Throne takes place who-knows-where after the entire universe is demolished prior to its commencment. (Rev 20:11, Rev 21:1)

The defendants at the Great White throne are judged according to their works as per their criminal records; while the sheep and goats are not judged according to their works; but rather, judged according to only one single criteria : how they treated the Lord's Israelite countrymen during the seven-year tribulation that precedes Christ's return; when there will be world-wide anti Semitism on a scale so great as to make Hitler's gestapo look like kids selling Girl Scout cookies.

Justification is really cool; but it's available only to the non-conceited. People like the Pharisee— infected with pride in themselves and pride in their religion —can just forget it.

Gravity's attraction weakens as objects move apart, and grows stronger as objects move closer together. Since distance between objects effects the strength of gravity's pull between them, then the closer a man positions himself to the earth's center of mass, the stronger gravity pulls him down. But how might gravity behave if, say, a man stood at the precise center of the earth's mass? Would gravity then work somewhat like water pressure rather than a magnet? Water pressure is a compressive force, while gravity is an attractive force. So would the man be squished by gravity if he positioned himself at the earth's precise center of mass since gravity would then be pulling him down from all directions; like an implosion?

How might gravity effect the souls in hades? Well, that's not an issue for them. People reside in the netherworld as spirits; which is a non-material substance that has no mass. The Bible's words for "spirit" are the Hebrew ruwach and the koiné Greek pneuma. Both words mean the same thing : air, breath, wind, and/or breeze.

The air of earth's atmosphere contains a number of gaseous elements whose physical masses have been ascertained. But nobody yet has ascertained the physical mass of spirit; probably because spirit isn't physical.

So then, the Bible's hell is not only a place of punishment; but also of quarantine; sort of like an eternal leper's colony.

Answer : NO

It's a very common to mistake to confuse eternal life with longevity; but that's not really it. If you can understand what animal life, bird life, aquatic life, and/or human life is, then you can understand what eternal life is because it's a genus of life that does not exist in nature but rather, exists in God.

The Bible's Christ is the officially designated distributor of eternal life; and he gives it only to a very select category of people identified as those God has given him.

†. John 17:2-3 . .You have given your son authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.

People to whom the Lord bestows eternal life do not exist in Hell.

†. John 10:27-28 . . My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish

Ergo : people currently in Hell went there with human life rather than eternal life.

The koine Greek word for "gates" is pule (poo'-lay) which means : a gate, as the leaf or wing of a folding entrance.

That says Hades is a lock-up; but 59,273 souls pouring in there every 24-hour day on the clock suggests to me that the gates aren't the same double-door gates at the entrances of medieval cities secured by one or more heavy bars; but rather, in some respects, sort of like one-way check valves that let souls in, but doesn't let them go back the way they came.

So then, if perchance a bona fides member of the Lord's church should somehow slip through a crack and end up in the wrong place, those check valves are powerless to keep them on the far side; no, the souls of the Lord's church can come and go at will and there is not one single thing those one-way gates can do to stop them from leaving.

Objection : Ever consider the fact that the Bible nowhere mentions that we go to heaven or hell at the moment of death?

I am unaware of the "fact" to which that person referred, which in reality, is not a fact at all, but rather, simply a deficiency in their own personal knowledge of the Bible.

Paul was confident that at his departure, he would be with the Lord.

†. Php 1:23 . .I desire to depart and be with Christ

To "be with Christ" is to be in Heaven because that is where the Bible's Jesus currently resides at his Father's right hand.

For believers such as myself, to be absent from the body; is to be present with the Lord.

†. 2Cor 5:6-8 . .Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. . We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with The Lord.

When the rich man and the beggar Lazarus died in Luke 16:19-31, the angels carried Lazarus to Abraham's section of the netherworld.

†. Luke 16:22 . .The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side.

It's obvious from the text that Abraham was not in the flaming section of the netherworld at the time. It could be argued he was not in Heaven either; but that would certainly not be true today. If Paul expected to be with the Lord at his passing; then there's no reason to doubt Abraham and Lazarus are now with the Lord too.

The New Testament's Jesus gave a fellow prisoner his word that they would both enter a paradise the very day of their crucifixions.

†. Luke 23:43 . . Jesus answered him : I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.

If Jesus and his fellow prisoner went to a paradise the very day of their deaths, then can there be any doubt that the rich man went to the Hell section of the netherworld the very day of his own death, and Lazarus went to Abraham's section on the very day of his death?

Upon comparing texts, it becomes clear that nobody went to Heaven prior to the Lord's crucifixion and resurrection. Old Testament saints went to luxurious accommodations in the netherworld where Abraham was at the time of the events narrated in Luke 16:19-31. And the others went to you know where; and they are still there to this very day yearning for a damp swab to soothe their parched tongues.
