How would heaven be possible for anyone?

Seeing that they were Jewish and caretakers of God's Word, yes they too drank of the living water from the Rock who is Christ, the living water of The Word. For they had the 10 commandments written in "The STONE", (who is called The Stone?)but just looking at the Word changes no man, he must be exalted UP in our life to renew our minds. So in the new covenant in Christ we have a better covenant whereby, The Word & Spirit of God(The helper) indwells us so we no longer are just hearers of the Word, but hopefully are learning to be doers!

1 Cor 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
KJV

I did not mean that they were born again, but they do have Christ. In fact God has spared 7,000 OT saints who will be saved by grace and I would believe that John the Baptist, his mother, father and his flesh birth mother Mary and Joseph would make the list, wouldn't you agree? The unbelieving Jews are just not under their new covenant unless they agree to receive Christ in their flesh, to be born again. Even Abraham awaited Jesus' day and rejoiced.

1 Kings 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
KJV
Rom 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
KJV
John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

KJV
In the BEGINNING WAS THE WORD AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD AND THE WORD WAS GOD.......

Rom 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
Rom 11:3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
Rom 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
That 7,000 was just during the time when Elijah prayed to God. So I think we can be assured there were many more than this 7,000 from before John the Baptist or OT times.

Rom 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
Rom 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Rom 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Rom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
Rom 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Abraham believed God and his faith was counted to him as righteousness (justification).
David understood that righteousness was given without works to those who believed God. They were forgiven by grace and their sin was covered.
The OT saints were looking forward to the Messiah's redemption of them and we look back at the same. The Cross and Resurrection.

One of the qualifications of a Christian is that he believe in Christ resurrected (Rom 10:9); so given that John the Baptist and Joseph died before Christ was resurrected, they could not be Christians. But they were surely saved, and [like all OT saints] met Christ after He ascended. Mary became a Christian after Christ ascended.
