Judas Iscariot

I believe Judas was saved. He repented of his sin before he hanged himself having betrayed Jesus to the Sanhedrin.
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; those thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.
John 17:12
The son of perdition is the antichrist. This then would be saying Judas was kept. In him were the scriptures fulfilled in that even Jesus told him to go and betray him as Jesus knew he was meant to do.

I hear what you say when you show how Judas is only recorded as using the title Rabbi when speaking to Jesus. But I'm still not convinced that is all there is to it. Another difference between Judas and the others was that when Peter and Thomas realized the error of their ways they repented. Judas did not repent.

I've thought of this.
Plus, the fact that he DID commit suicide shows that he was so distraught at what he had done.
Judas might have believed that Jesus wanted him to go to the Sanhedrin.

Does this not mean that Jesus asked him to go to the Sanhedrin?
It might have been precisely to fulfill scripture.

Some versions of the Bible render Matthew 27:3 using the word repented.

Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. KJV

What was the value of 30 pieces of silver? On the other hand, one could argue, what is the monetary value of any life?

Doesn't this describe every single person that ever lived? We are all prone to sinful behavior.
 
In my reading this morning I thought this was interesting from Acts 1:15-17 NKJV where Peter was speaking about Judas.

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said, “Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry.” Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) “For it is written in the Book of Psalms:

‘Let his dwelling place be desolate,
And let no one live in it’; and,
‘Let another take his office.’

“Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.” And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed and said, “You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.” And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

That is a bad tree not a good tree. As Jesus called Him a Devil. The one who tempts people by their own evil desires. The Love of money is the root of many evils. Judas's heart was already that way when He was selected in order to fulfill the scriptures. God doesn't tempt people to do evil and Jesus came to save.

John 12:6 NIV
He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

I agree, I heard someone say that Judas probably believed and figured Jesus would just get himself out of the situation Judas had put him in .. Judas figured he'd make a little money off of Jesus and sold him out .. He had it dead wrong .. imo he had probably played with fire a time or two before then ..

No. We are not prone to betray Jesus whom Judas walked with face to face and had to see the miracles performed He is without excuse.

He was lost not saved. But again Judas's own greed was his undoing not God.
Jesus=>While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
 
Here's the best answer of the thread: I don't know and neither do you. But God knows and that's all that matters.

I beg to differ. The way I see it, every time we sin we are betraying Jesus, i.e., God.

The Suicide of Judas
3 When Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. 4 He said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.”

Seems to me in my reading that this act of Judas met the criteria that John the Baptist when he made his proclamation against the Pharisees. And admonished them to bear fruit worthy of repentance. Matthew 3:8

The other reason I have to believe Judas Iscariot was repentant and forgiven by Jesus and God for betraying Christ, and had he not, how would Jesus have managed to fulfil the prophecy of dying on a tree, such a one is cursed, so as to bear the sins of the world upon himself there, is from Jesus own lips while on the cross?
"Father forgive them for they know not what they do."

Asking forgiveness for all who participated in his death on the cross.

They knew not that they were fulfilling the very reason for Jesus the Christ being born. But Jesus did. (The betrayal and arrest of Christ - Matthew 26 - (53)"Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen in this way?” )

Jesus, God, forgave even Judas Iscariot. Judas didn't know this when he hanged himself after repenting for his betrayal of innocent blood. And that greedy man then returning those 30 pieces of silver to the Sanhedrin. And to be cursed dying on that tree where he hanged himself.

But he does now.

What a glorious God I serve. When he can forgive Judas, is there any sincere sinner seeking his face that is not able to be held too in his grace and forgiveness? No. Praise our cherished Lord! No. :pray
