The power of The Cross

The cross itself was 2 pieces of wood nailed together. The power comes from what Christ did on it and his resurrection. He could have been hanged and it would have made no difference.

The cross is not just an instrument of death...it also represents something in the Spirit where our old life is held immobile (nailed to the wall) while we are enabled to walk in newness of life. On the cross the flesh is unable to act. This is a perfect representation of what happens to those who are crucified with Christ but in the Spirit. The power that animates the flesh is rendered immobile while the new man can walk away.

Gal_6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

I know all that, the point is, people pay lip service to it, and do not believe in its power at all !

There is no 'power' in the cross. If you find it necessary to be rescued that is a matter for you. Jesus said sell what you have and follow him.

1Co 1:18

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

2Co 4:10

Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
2Co 4:11

For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
2Co 4:12

So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
2Co 4:13

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
2Co 4:14

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

One who has died with Christ, no longer fears death. The desires of this natural life, desires for earthly things, money fame etc... must all be put away. God desires that we turn our life over to Him, take no thought for your own life, is the goal.

God desires to give us the Good things of heaven, but we must first let go of the desires of this world. All the good things of God come from simple childlike faith. We first must see that He who gave us His Son, who purchased us with His own Blood. How will He not with Him, freely give us all things?

2Co 4:18

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Rom 7:24

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Here Paul does not look for a program, not a fasting, not a prayer chain, not a religious creed or doctrine!
Paul looks for the Person of our lord Jesus Christ!

Rom 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.

We should see that Christ Jesus Himself was condemned for the sin in the flesh. For HE became sin, who knew no sin!

So if we have died with Him, we shall also live with Him!

We must see the Cross, and His work there, to understand how free He has made those who are "IN HIM"

Rom 8:10

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Rom 8:12

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Rom 8:13

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Many can not see the legal rights we have to "walk in the Spirit", because they do not see that Christ Jesus has paid ALL LEGAL DEBTS that was owed by us, for sin! AT THE CROSS!

Heb 10:12

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

The Cross is the power of God, because it is the payment of God, for our sins!

This is the true power of the Cross:

1 Corinthians 15:22 "For as in Adam ALL die, even so in Christ shall ALL be made alive."

John 12:32 "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, WILL DRAW ALL MEN UNTO ME"

1 Timothy 4:10 "For this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Savior of ALL MEN - especially of those that believe."

1 Timothy 2:2-6. "For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who WILL HAVE ALL MEN TO BE SAVED, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a RANSOM FOR ALL to be testified IN DUE TIME."

1 John 4:10; 2:2 "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but for the SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD"

Titus 2:11 "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to ALL MEN."

John 1:29 "Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the SIN OF THE WORLD."

Colossians 1:16, 20 "For by Him were ALL THINGS created, that are IN HEAVEN, and that are IN EARTH, visible and INVISIBLE, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or PRINCIPALITIES, or POWERS: ALL THINGS were created by Him and FOR HIM: and, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to RECONCILE ALL THINGS unto Himself; by Him, I say, whether they be THINGS IN EARTH, or THINGS IN HEAVEN"

Philippians 2:11 "And EVERY TONGUE shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father"

Acts 3:20,21 "And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you, whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of ALL THINGS, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets, since the world began."

Yes we have heard how "universal" salvation is being preached:toofunny

One has to deny so many scriptures to believe that, that its really not an issue:wave

Heb 4:2

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Heb 4:6

Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
Heb 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

1Co 1:18

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

1Co 1:21

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

If your doctrine makes some scripture true and others false, then your doctrine is false!

If your doctrine makes some scripture true and others false, then your doctrine is false!

All I did was quote Scripture Mitspa, nothing else - not a word, other than Scripture passages. What is it about the Scriptures I posted that are false? What is so funny about Scripture passages that you would laugh and mock them? I said nothing of my own. The subject is "the power of the Cross" and I simply posted a list of some of the most wonderful verses in the Bible with regard to that subject, with no commentary of my own. What conclusions are you drawing Mitspa? Is this about you trying to prove people wrong all of the time, or is it about Christ and the Word of God? Why do you mock verses of Scripture? If there is something you think is false within those verses, why don't you explain each verse, one by one, so I can see for myself what the joke is.

Now you're getting close.

Your right, I guess I did assume you were about to make some statement about universal salvation? If that is not your view? please forgive me!:praying

what is your view on "faith"?

1Co 1:17

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1Co 1:18

1Jn 4:2

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1Jn 4:3

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Many believe John was dealing with the false teaching of the "Gnostics" which taught that Christ was not really in a physical body of flesh. Now the reason this is so important is because that Christ Jesus bore our sins in His own body, because of that we who believe have now had all our sin judged in His Body. The great truth of the Cross is that He took upon Himself that judgment that was ours, and without His Work on the Cross we are all still in our sins.

2Co 5:21

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. :-)

Isa 53:10

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Isa 53:11

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
