The Symbol of the Bride.

Glad you have brought up this scripture as it needs looking into.

2 Cor. 11: 2. Here the Apostle Paul is speaking to his disciples in Corinth. He desires them to be pure and present them as such to the Lord.

Jude 24 `Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and TO PRESENT YOU FAULTLESS before the presence of HIS GLORY. `

So we see that it is the Lord Himself who will present us faultless to Himself NOT Paul.

He works in us to will and to do of his good pleasure. The things I won’t not those things I do.
Romans 7:15 kjv
15. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

(top water circle storms). And circle whirlpools on the Mississippi River. You know circles in water. You know I will get you back if it is the last thing I do. Anger in humanity takes the full grace of God to un-do. The will to do is present in us, but the power to foot is not. By grace we are saved, not of works lest any man might boast. The old covenant says you do it, but the new covenant says if we confess our sis ins he will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That pure bride may have had issues in the past that have been worked out by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Father - confess sins
Son - forgiveness of sins
Holy Spirit - powe

I can assure everyone, that if eddif has a white wedding garment it was not granted because of carnal works.
for_his_glory snuck Romans grace salvation into one of her long posts. No flag waving just bam there
it is. I kinda got out the trumpets, banner, fireworks, etc. Oh well the one new man may look Jewish one minute and Gentile the next.

New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven, and not exactly directly out of wilderness wandering. Gifts of the Holy Spirit. You out there Edward?

Much rambling, but to me about the bride.

Well Noah wasn’t a Jew. Melchesidek wasn’t a Jew. Enoch wasn’t a Jew. The words of God weren’t limited to the Jews.

Not necessarily.

Noah wasn’t and he was one of them. Do you know that Paul appealed to the pagan Romans for protection from the Jews?

I guess I prefer real Christians who don’t outlaw sharing the Gospel like the Jews do.

There’s no evidence the different nationalities were blood line Jews. Most were likely converts which were many over the centuries.

I think Jesus was responsible for the Gentile inclusion. He actually had to convince Peter against his own desire.

Ok. Yes, of course, to the Jew first was the gospel given. That’s the proper order. Doesn’t make them superior.
Romans 3:1 kjv
1. What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
2. Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

Romans 3 gives a good history.

Please show where the Body of Christ was revealed before Paul?
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples.” “I am the vine and you (plural) are the branches.” Paul used a metaphor to describe christ and the church. The vine and branches are another metaphor used by Jesus for the same concept. We are to be unified and attached to the Master.

Please show that the Body of Christ is called the bride?
The Bride is only a metaphor. Men and women are not really a bride. The expression appears only in Revelation and only “like a bride” not is a bride. Since there is only one group comprised of Jews and Gentiles who believe and belong to Jesus, who else is there? The problem lies in you thinking there are two separate groups and that Israel belongs to the Lord as a group totally outside of Jesus and the christians. Am I mistaken?
Please explain why God told Israel they would rule the nations and then goes back on that promise?

(Zech. 14: 6 ff, Joel 3: 2, Micah 4: 1 - 3, Isa. 45: 4, Ez. 17: 22)
He didn’t. Jesus was promised rulership not a race from the middle east. The true Israel is Jesus himself.

Surly we can see that Jesus deserves this because of his behavior apart from his sacrifice. Look at his teaching and judgements. Could anyone be more fair and yet merciful? Why would Jewish converts or even slightly descendants from Abraham be given authority over the earth? In Israel, it’s not legal to share the gospel. Should we give them rule over the earth? What would happen to christians?

Hebrews 10:5 kjv
5. One isWherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

1 Corinthians 12:17 kjv
17. If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole werehearing, where were the smelling?

Under the law an animal body with sins placed on it. Body was supplied as an offering. Symbols are everywhere.

We complete the suffering of Christ. The bride suffers?

If I quote your favorite scripture you have already posted 5 times, I apologize.

The symbols of the bride begins IMHO in Revelation 4.
Human Anatomy
The heart first. The rule of Jesus over the muscles of the heart.
First repentance in the heart.

I did a search and the concept of bride is mentioned exactly once in the NT and describes Jerusalem as “Like a” which is one lone verse, pretty weak to build a theology upon. It begins and ends in Revelation.

Dorothy,

I do understand your concern and rightly so, However being like Christ is receiving His divine nature, (2 Peter 2 - 4) Thus the believer`s attitude and behaviour come forth more and more like Christ, for that is the work of the Holy Spirit in the believer. (Rom. 8: 29)

Any who choose to act differently are going their own way and not following Christ.

And yes it is the urging of the Holy Spirit which enables us to know what He desires to work through us. This is not just doing what is right in God`s word for that is the character of Christ. The `gold, silver, precious stones,` are what is done through the enabling of the Holy Spirit in ministry.

The foundation is Christ, His character, (1 Cor. 3: 11) and upon that we `build` by the Holy Spirit `work` that the Lord desires to be accomplished. (1 Cor. 3: 12, Eph. 4: 16)

Marilyn.
Hi Marilyn,

The problem with the “automatic” assuming one has Christ’s divine nature and becomes more and more in attitude and behavior like Christ is that when I test this “theory” in real life it doesn’t fit. The older people have no more character or behavior like Jesus than the young. I have more often seen people become less like christ’s divine nature. I’ve seen strong believers go from believing to doubting to rejecting the faith and eventually embrace atheism. So I do not that this position is what happens. Sounds nice but isn’t so.

What makes the difference between those who grow like Him? Obedience to Him whether it’s in “ministry” or not. And they seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness not assuming it’s all theirs whether they seek or not.

The true church being the Bride of Christ is New Israel/New Jerusalem neither Jew nor Greek making up the holy city of God that is ushered down from heaven after this present world and heaven will be made new again. Our Spiritual rebirth is from up above and as we are caught up to Christ as we are gathered in the clouds to meet Him in the air when He returns, 1 Thessalonians 4:17, we will ever be with Him until will are ushered down to live in the new earth/New Jerusalem. Notice in Rev 21:2 John describes the holy city new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

There is no plan of God for the nation of Israel that is separate from the Church as we read in scripture there is no Jew nor Greek there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise, Galatians 3:24-29, Revelation 21:3, 4.

The physical literal description of the holy city like the wall's foundation being precious stones and the streets being pure gold is symbolic of the purity of the true Church of God that reflects the glory of the Lord who brought us through the refiners fire and made pure in order to enter that which has been made holy unto us.

Revelation 22:6-21 concludes with an epilogue which reassures the readers that Christ is coming quickly and invites all who wish to take the water of life freely to come to the alpha and Omega, the bright and Morning star.

Daniel 7:27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. 13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Rev 5:10 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. (We are the Spiritual Kingdom of God on earth)

Rev 11: 15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (We are that Spiritual kingdom of God while here on earth as we reign with Him over the nations)

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Dear Marilyn

That is NOT what that verse says. It doesn’t say he will definitively present you faultless and blameless no matter how you’ve behaved to other people. Scripture promises that He is ABLE to do so but obviously you have to
cooperate. The goats were not presented faultless or blameless although he was able to have presented them to be such. And you cannot retreat blaming their thinking because Jesus did not mention either their faith or their thinking in general. We should not embellish the scripture if we want to arrive at truth.

Hi Dorothy,

I definitely agree that we have to `walk by the Spirit,` and so not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. The key there is that we obey the Holy Spirit, who is developing within us the divine nature. And Christ`s divine nature (character) fulfilled the law. Thus as we obey the Holy Spirit`s guidance then we will fulfill the law also.

So in a nut shell - we obey the Holy Spirit but not try to obey the law in our own strength.

The `sheep and goats` is another matter altogether.

Hi FHG,

There is a lot in your comments so I`ll try for a few at a time.

The city, the New Jerusalem comes DOWN out of heaven FROM God. (Rev. 21: 2) We both agree there. Now the OT saints were promised that as their inheritance. (Heb. 11: 16) However the Body of Christ has been promised the very throne of the Lord in the highest heaven.

`To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with me on MY THRONE.....`(Rev. 3: 21)

`And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.` (Rev. 5: 10)

ON is not correct. The Gk, word is `epi` OVER. We need other scriptures to confirm this.

THE BODY OF CHRIST`S INHERITANCE IS IN HEAVEN.

Our inheritance, our hope, our place, our citizenship, all of which are IN HEAVEN.

`...to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.` (1 Peter 1: 4 )

` ...because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of truth..`(Col. 1: 5)

` ...and raised us up together and made to sit in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.`(Eph. 2: 6)

` For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly await for the saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.` (Phil. 3: 20)

This is interesting.
Like trying to describe the similarities of the Father - Son - Holy Spirit, and turn right and describe their differences.

Is Revelation talking of real Gold ? Yes. Is it the main point ? No.
Is Revelation talking of a precious spiritual reality in heaven? Yes.
Is gold precious on earth? Yes
Is spiritual truth precious in heaven? Yes

Then - So that hearing they hear not.
Now - explaining .

The refiners fire that produces pure gold are those who are the Bride of Christ dressed in fine linen, pure and clean as they are dressed in God's righteousness.

Sorry about the length of some of my post as I copy and paste from articles I have written. It is best to try a few at a time making it easier to discuss. :)

If you start with the call of Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 and cross reference with Hebrews 11:8-16 The land of promise to Abraham was that of the land of Canaan when he was told to leave Ur and travel to what would be a strange land to him. By faith he sojourned dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

In my understanding I believe all these verses speak of the New Israel/New Jerusalem that will be ushered down from heaven as all the OT saints are joined with the NT saints of that same promise as we are all now being the body of Christ by faith and part of the seed of Abraham with that same inheritance of a better country that is the heavenly country, New Jerusalem. All being of faith are the Bride of Christ.

Hi FHG,

That would be helpful if we just worked on one part of the topic at a time. Thanks.

So I agree with most of what you said, as we know that is scripture. However I do not agree that we and the OT saints are joined. Yes we know the Jews and Gentiles are in the Body of Christ, however no where does it say that the OT saints are in the Body of Christ.

Can you prove that the OT saints are in the B/C?

And why did God make the nation of Israel, (miraculously), work with them for over 1,500 years then cast that purpose of the nation of Israel, aside?

HI Marilyn,

Well, at least you have dropped the level to as we obey the Holy Spirit who is only in the process of developing Christ in us. The opposite then has to be true, that as we refuse to obey the Holy Spirit ("when you hear his voice do not refuse"), Christ is then not being developed in us.

But truthfully, I really do not see that we have his divine nature, not from internal experience nor from watching many Christians over many years as a given. There is the hunger to be flattered in modern people and what is more flattering that promising people they have a divine nature (no matter how they think or behave?)

I am also fairly convinced that not many believers actually obey the Holy Spirit at all. Most seem to have their assurance of going to heaven, like help with their problems from God and some friends so they are not lonely. This is probably the attitude the goats could be attributed as having. That parable is repeated in the parable of the servants each given talents to use and others.

Hi Dorothy,

Oh dear, that is so sad about not seeing Christ`s life developing in yourself or others. Perhaps you are just seeing all the work yet to come about. I`m sure some of your character is changing. Are you dying to self daily? for that is what we all have to do. (As you would know.)

I can see lot of changes in myself, my hubby, and friends over time. We know that we must keep short accounts, as it were, and repent when we know that we have said or done something hurtful to another, been impatient, gotten cross, been selfish, etc etc.

Hopefully if you ask the Lord He will highlight to you some changes He has made. You see I believe what the Lord has said about changing us, and over the centuries and across the world I know He is doing that in so many lives that I do not see. But one day we shall be like Him. Praise His glorious name.

praying, Marilyn.

The last few posts are confusing as to ( Who said what to whom ).
I started to make a few comments, but saw that I really do not know if the (they saids are correct).

I think I better start sitting back and pray for some deeper discernment.

Hi Dorothy,

Oh dear, that is so sad about not seeing Christ`s life developing in yourself or others.

Wow, that is really changing my words against me!! You assume I don’t see Christ developing in my life as a personal attack because you don’t seem to be able to answer my thinking challenge. This is evidence of him not developing in the life that attacks others in words.
Perhaps you are just seeing all the work yet to come about. I`m sure some of your character is changing. Are you dying to self daily?

Stop the personal attacks Marilyn. It is evidence of you needing the Holy Spirit to work in you and not dying to yourself today. Now as the sheep was silent before it’s shearers, so I respond as Jesus did when falsely accused. Do you need that verse?
for that is what we all have to do. (As you would know.)
I suspect that this takes the form of: “Dear Lord, I am dying to myself again today. Thank you that you will ensure that I am dead to the flesh without any pain to my flesh by having to deny myself anything.”
I can see lot of changes in myself, my hubby, and friends over time. We know that we must keep short accounts, as it were, and repent when we know that we have said or done something hurtful to another, been impatient, gotten cross, been selfish, etc etc.
You need to repent of that false accusation. Will you?

Just be wise and don’t tell us that you think God gave you discernment because we are required to test it by scripture and so far the results have not indicated that God Himself was revealing something.

After giving this more thought I do agree the OT saints would not be called the body of Christ/church as that happened at Pentecost. All though by faith in God and being obedient to His commands when they were alive they too will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air when He returns.
