Some of Christ's words come in parables, and some are direct. For example, he told us not to look lustfully at people (Matt 5:28).

Hard to commit adultery when you or them aren't married. It's good to use context where possible.

Not if it is a simple statement of fact. Also, he didn't proclaim to be one, just said what one who is mature should be able to discern.

Pride can also, relate to your OP.
Sometimes I have resisted temptation and sometimes I haven't. I have learned that life is far better when I DO resist temptation. Do you consider that a prideful statement? gr8grace3 seems to be implying that he is a mature Christian, and that I am not.

With out the context of how you said it to the people who you said were in disagreement I can't tell.

I didn't see that gr8grace3 was implying he was mature and you were not. Honestly.

Actually you were quoting Mathew. Mark 16-9 is totally different. I thought it would be rude to point that out earlier.
I have quoted Mark 10:19-21 RSV:

[19] You know the commandments: `Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'"
[20] And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth."
[21] And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

And I have quoted Matthew 22:34-40 RSV:

[34] But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sad'ducees, they came together.
[35] And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.
[36] "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
[37] And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
[38] This is the great and first commandment.
[39] And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
[40] On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

I see. Well then I apologize.

Anyone who looks lustfully on someone has committed adultery:

But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matt 5:28 RSV

It sounded to me that was EXACTLY what he was implying. Am I wrong?

Since you quoted Mark and said all those commandments must be obeyed. Why haven't you sold all your possessions?

Anyone who looks lustfully on someone has committed adultery:

Here's the definition of adultery: "voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse." It is literally impossible to be adulterous and one of you not be married. If you want to take that 100% literally, it's adultery to look at your wife lustfully.

No, here is the definition of adultery (these are the words of Jesus Christ):

But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matt 5:28 RSV

What do I have that I don't need?

The command wasn't sell all that you don't need. It was sell all you have and follow me.

You have a computer. I bet a TV. More than likely a smartphone. I bet you have a bunch of stuff you don't need.

A man and his wife are one flesh. How do you look lustfully at yourself? But if it bothers you, don't get married. I'm not married.

2.4: No Trolling. Do not make an inflammatory remark just to get a response. Address issues not personalities. Respect where people are in their spiritual walk, and respect all others in general. Respect where others are in their spiritual walk, do not disrupt the flow of discussion or act in a way that affects others negatively including when debating doctrinal issues, in the defense of the Christian faith, and in offering unwelcome spiritual advice.

No need to go personal guys :)

I need a car to drive to work. I need a job to feed myself. I need a computer to write novels. Don't have a smartphone. Don't have cable or satellite TV. I do have a TV with an antenna (rabbit ears), but I need to entertain myself. Is it sin to entertain myself? I think not. The Lord wants us to be happy, not miserable. It's bedtime. Talk to you later. Bob

I'm using context, not taking everything he says without thinking about it. I also disagree. If I marry, my wife is not me. I'm sorry, that doesn't hold for me. We may be one as in a partnership, but not one as in the same individual.

As I said the command that you quoted didn't say sell all that you don't need. It said sell all that you have.

You don't need a computer to write novels. A pen and paper is all that is required. A tv isn't a need either.

Great talking to you.
