are atheists guilty of intolerance?

Yeah, some would say the same. Look at WBC as an example, with their street protests and their "God hates (insert name of whoever they are protesting here)" signs. I also think of some of the videos I've seen (some even posted on this forum) of a certain kind of street preacher who love name calling and spewing hatred. Those are just a couple of examples of the kinds of things I can just imagine turn so many away from us.

Yes, exactly! Westboro must be detestable in the Lord's eyes.

How should Christians treat one another?Lets bring Jesus Christ and the Bible into this. What does the Bible say about how we should treat one another? Are we doing that?

A big problem is that so many of those outside of Christianity don't see the difference between these kind of people and the rest of us. But it's the same with so many of us. How many times do we lump everyone who doesn't believe in God (or just don't believe in exactly the same doctrines) into the same group?

I was quoting Obidiah's post, he was commenting on the OP, which was in reference to comments on an article on the web. In those types of articles just as many Christians do bash other people who have differing opinions, it is easy because it's social media,

Got'cha.

I sometimes wonder if we would say the same if we were standing in the same room.

I have a personal standard that if I wouldn't say it in person, I won't say it online.

If people don't agree with me, then they're wrong. haha j/k

I think we expect unbelievers to behave and think like believers and then become angry when they don't. When they think and behave like the world, it's so different than what we know as truth, we become frustrated with their blindness. It's enough to drive a person crazy sometimes.

Plus why the special attention to Christians? What is it about Christianity that atheists just can't stand? Are they guilty of the same things they accuse Christians of being?
Christians represent the truth and whether they consciously realize it or not this is why so many in the world dislike us.

you must have had a lot of 'time outs' or swats growing up

I would've preferred that to what I actually got. But to be honest, I believe if the beatings were any less harsh, I would've lost my perspective on how it feels to have a belt laid across the back. That perspective saved my children from a heap of pain. I never once raised a hand toward my kids. That's not to say they didn't get punished. I just didn't see any point in inflicting pain. That's not what punishment is about.

I don't think its just atheists....

Unbelievers are all on the broad road that leads unto destruction, after all. I think "tolerant+liberal" people are more openly hostile to Jesus, but other people are, too. Muslims. New Age people. Some feminists. Marxists. Some conservatives, even (BTW--there are lots of gay conservatives. They vote conservative because gay men have more money that most of us and the conservatives protect their interests).

So...yeah...and then, lots of people like watered-down Christianity of some sort. Around here (Bible Belt), we like mega churches and conventional Christianity. Like, you drive a big truck, you're a decent dude, go to church, you're a Christian! Not that there's anything wrong with that, BUT...

...not all Christians (even where I live) drive big trucks and vote GOP. See what I'm saying? I'm guilty of the left wing version of that, sometimes. I think people are "less Christian" when they talk GOP stuff. So I'm no different, but...

...it seems like de-clawed, watered down Christianity (conservative or progressive/liberal/whatever) can be good, but Jesus--that guy who can change people from the inside out and forgives ALL your sins--not terribly popular.

Ramble ramble..its not just atheists. You are for me or you are against me, and most people are against Him to some extent.

Thank you. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm fine. Everything worked out for the good. It may not have seemed like it at the time, but as I look back, I wouldn't change a thing.

And the internet's a playground for them because they can get away with pretty much anything short of stalking and death threats online. Kinda like bigshot highschool kids before they get smacked in the face by the reality of adult life.

Not that I want the internet policed. No, that doesn't work. We just have to accept that trolls will always exist as long as the internet does, and learn how to deal with them...and the answer to that is, you don't. Ignore them and don't react to their taunting. They'll learn that they won't get the rise out of you they're looking for and they'll leave you alone. Works for me every time.

Usually when I spot a troll, I just mess with them. I used to go onto 4chan and they had some funny memes. So if someone says something messed up I usally respond:
Cool-Story-Bro-.jpg

Then LOL when THEY start getting upset.

From the doctrinal believer, they can't stand Jesus Christ.
I've def. seen that. They'll leave gods like Athena, Odin, or Horus alone- even though they could EASILY use them as straw-men to shun religion altogether, but instead they go after Jesus...which is basically like running head first into a brick wall expecting the wall to collapse. They ain't the juggernaut!

Sadly it goes both ways. The atheists have their intolerant people. But also an awful lot of Christians are very intolerant and very vocal about it. Then there are well known cult groups that call themselves Christians who are extremely intolerant. (Think Westboro Baptist Church.) Most people not closely involved with Christianity don't see the difference between, say Westboro Baptist Church and the nice little local church down the street where people sing hymns and fellowship with each other, never causing any problems. We rebel against the intolerant atheists and they likewise rebel against the intolerant Christians. Just like a bunch of little babies in the kindergarten sandbox.
I try, really, hard not to think about The Westboro Family Church. Mhy wife has been alerted to direct a Direct burial when I pass, preemptin two things for certain; 1. paying for embalming a carcass this going to rot at some point anyway and 2. the possibility of people like the Westboro bunch making me famous for fifteen minutes and terrorizing her and my offspring.

Want to talk about hate, I try not to get started here.
