Issues with Speaking In Tongues

My life changed with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
I had been saved 14 years before I received it.
The most noticable changes were my desire and ability to pray.
Also wisdom of God's word.
I found myself reading scripture and understanding things in a whole new light.

Now that you are saved, you should ask the Lord to baptize you with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).

While it is certainly true the Holy Spirit came into your heart and life the moment of your Salvation, still, He now wishes to endure you with power from on high. Consequently, Jesus told all of His followers immediately before His Ascension, that they should "wait for the Promise of the Father" (Acts 1:4). he was speaking of being "Baptized with the Holy Spirit" (Acts 1:5).

You must understand that there is a great difference in being "born of the Spirit" than being " Baptized with the Spirit." They are two different works altogether.

To be "born of the Spirit" is that which took place at your conversion, as the holy Spirit brought you to Christ and performed the work of regeneration within your heart and life. To be "Baptized with the Spirit" is in order that you may have Power with God (Acts 1:8). Every Believer should ask the lord to fill them with the Holy Spirit, and expect to receive (Luke 11:13).

What other God-given gifts do you have?

That's the way that it happened when the HS told me to pray for my brother. It was out of the blue, I was doing something else and not emotionalized in the least...and it was the most powerful presence of the HS that I have ever felt before. Question: How powerful is the HS's presence when you speak in tongues?

This sound like cop out but it is not, it is personal Edward IMO about as personal as anything can be..

Speaking in tongues is fine....but you should never do it in front of people unless you can interpret & give prophesy.

I don't think there is a difference.
I find speaking in tongues is prayer.
Everyone's experiences in prayer will be different.
As I said before, my ability and desire to pray increased.
I realize I have a new weapon to use when I don't know what to say in prayer.

You are allowed bro....it came to me in great desperation, now I pray in tongues only to praise, not to ask for things......he already knows what we need!

I found at first, that you just speak in jiberish with the thought in your mind to give praise to your loving God....
its just a beginning but it will grow into a true language. !

People believe this is fake but that is not necessarily true.
Some people are just plain tongue-tied, most likely because they are blocking the Holy Spirit in the flesh.
I believe speaking jiberish with the right intent helps release us from ourselves until we reach a point where we allow the Holy Spirit to take over.
I can't prove this with scripture nor can anyone prove otherwise.

Re: Issues with Speaking In Tongues

This Baptist pastor speaks in tongues!!!!! I know, impossible right? Quite a few Baptist's are breaking out of some of the traditions of Baptist theology. When my first wife of 34 years was dying of cancer I took her to Florida to recover from her operations. I had preached against tongues in two Baptist churches that I was their pastor. While in Florida, and away from Baptist influence, The Holy Spirit came on me for four days straight. I would cry, the next minute I would laugh, cry, laugh, four days of crying and laughing. I was singing along to a Christian song and all at once I began to sing in tongues. I guess God was tired of me speaking out against His wishes. I confessed my sin against the Holy Spirit's gift, He forgave me and now I enjoy another gift of God. Praise His forgiving, gracious Name!

If you are ever in a service & they speak in tongues without interpreting,....it is false!
We are never to jaber in tongues without giving the interpretation!...in public

What an awesome testimony!

Glory to God forever!!!

You can pray in tongues wherever you want. I spoke in tongues constantly at work, at the store, where ever. Paul was talking about things being done decent and in order. Just speaking tongues in Church (The setting Paul mentioned several times) is not appropriate when a Pastor is teaching, or something else is going on besides you speaking in tongues. Normally people will ask me, "Is that tongues?" yep, just talking with my Father. The World seriously don't care, it's at church people get uptight.

I know a few, but they don't tell their congregation. More believers are understanding there is more than just getting born again. It's a start of a new life, as all things become new.

I often tell the Holy Spirit I want to pray for this and that, but How do you 100% know what your really praying? My thought is the Holy Spirit helps us and would help if we specifically asked to pray about a certain thing. I am pretty sure He does, but I still don't understand what I am saying which means the Holy Spirit is helping with things I did not ask about.

Always wanted to, never able or allowed.

Did you read my post on what I went through? It's not that you can't or was allowed, it was that you gave up seeking because you lack patience. Faith and patience inherit the promises. Go back and read post 21. See what I did because I don't give up if the Word says something that is mine. It could be having your needs met, healing, whatever the Word says I seek until God is able to get it through my head and build my faith to where I can obtain the promises.

Heb_6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I know you're right Brother, As soon as some of my Baptist pastor friends found out that I spoke in tongues, they separated from me. Even a few of my Penticostal pastor friends looked at me kind of funny. I think they thought I was faking tongues just to "get in" with them. I have always been a person who likes Holy Spirit filled friends but if they don't think I fit in with their denominational traditions they really don't trust me. So I care? I'm a man of the Word, not traditions! I care that Jesus loves me and knows my strengths and weak points and ministers through me and that's what's important to me.

I have heard phrases like "Baptism with the Holy Spirit" - "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" - I see "Baptism in the Holy Spirit" because I see us being birthed into His power to witness, heal, bring about miracles through Him. Rather than the Holy Spirit being in me (which occured a Salvation) I'm now in Him....Make any sense?
