What is The Baptism that saves us now?

Guess I'm getting another punch for no reason...so Here's the other cheek...

Love you brother/ sister...
Have a great day!šŸ˜˜
Nobody is "punching" you because they disagree with something that you wrote. If you can't tolerate differing opinions why are you participating in an online forum discussion?

Why would you even say that? When I posted over 5 scriptures that state the same thing. You take much out of context....you believe you understand already...so you don't want to learn..but you fight what you already know...yet you need to challenge what you have learned..and know as your truth...

And check your heart...because what you say and how you say it exemplifies if the circumcision you so "well" speak about is really curcumcumcizing your heart.

As a Christian you have been nothing but mean....Even if I could...which I couldn't because I know better, would want to listen to you to learn.....why would I?..

If being mean is what it means to be Baptized I would want nothing of it....So you say you take nothing out of context but yet your Baptism and knowledge has not lead you to love...but sarcasm and meanness.........My God is a God of Love

Is this what you mean by turning the other cheek?

You wrote a) "so you don't want to learn..but you fight what you already know" and b) "check your heart...because what you say and how you say it exemplifies if the circumcision you so "well" speak about" and c) "Even if I could...which I couldn't because I know better, would want to listen to you to learn.....why would I?" and d) "So you say you take nothing out of context but yet your Baptism and knowledge has not lead you to love...but sarcasm and meanness".

So I have a couple on ignore, and if anyone else have unwholesome words because people differ in their understanding they too will be put on ignore...To me it just doesn't benifit anyone who is listening, nor build anyone up........That's not the purpose for this forum ......I don't want to get caught up in that energy.....and neither should anyone...

Can you put yourself on ignore? You have been expressing negative thoughts and energy.

Good Mornting all God's beautiful people..

I wanted to take some time to look at how a passage can read....

So First it's best to post 1 Peter 3 again.

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
In these verses....it's how people could be brought into obedience to the word through
Subjection and chast conversation

Yet the appareling should be of the Hidden man of the heart-that which is not corruptible-meek, quiet Spirit

9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
This is about a blessed Life, where? On earth.

Where God will hear prayers because you honor your wife;etc and keep yourself.

So this is the path of a good Life on earth..while you are living now.....

I honestly want to be around Good energy...so I do not believe it's beneficial to continue on in a discussion where people take personal attacks....So for peace and to continue in healthy welfare to us and to others will just put each other on ignore...
To me you just don't have to strive to tear someone down because you do not agree.......it's not helpful nor is a conversation with you going to build anyone up who is listening....peace to you...have a blessed day...šŸŒ
I spend all of this time responding to you and giving Bible in full support for what I teach and all I do is ask you to do the same and this is what I get. Typical.
You say ā€œbaptism is immersion in the wordā€. I ask for Bible with that and I get nothing..
I asked..Can a person be ā€œsanctifiedā€ and still be in their sinsā€? No answer.
I askedā€¦at what point does the Bible say..our sins are removed? No answer.
If I come across in a certain way it is directly the result of you and the rest on this board. This is how a Bible discussion goesā€¦.I ask a question. You give me a Bible answer. Then in return you ask a question then I give a Bible answer and on and on we go. I have yet to get a Bible answer to any of these basic Bible questions that I have asked. How am I supposed to respond to that? A ā€œPhDā€ wont give me a Bible answer to a basic and easy Bible question. You people are supposed to be folks that love the Lord when it is clear that you dont much care for what he has to say. Feel free to prove me wrong.
I spend my time trying to show Bible doctrine and all I get this above.
Im the best friend you have on here. Why? Because I will challenge your Bible knowledge and understanding and give you the time to receive a Bible reply. Not a bunch of opinion nonsense. Too bad you cant even see it.
The truth of the Bible ā€œcuts to the heartā€ of every person. You will either respond like those on Pentecost in acts 2:37
or, as you just showed yourself to be, youā€˜ll respond like those in acts 7:54

10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
Here is the case that if you are doing right the Lord hears you...

Why be not even afraid? Of who? Of those people who try to mess your name up.
And those who will harm you...etc

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
Sanctify-set apart God in your heart? Where? In your heart

Question -where is the Lord God to be sanctity? "In your heart"

What kind of conscience will you have?
A good conscience.
If you living right seems reasonable..
Even If someone lies on you....you know
You have no worries because you are living the truth.

Thing is if You speak nothing but good...and someone is listening...they may think about How they are living....and bring shame on themselves- where they may change.

So on one hand if you do the will of God you may suffer but be happy, for it brings others home to Obedience to the word.

So your obedience brings you life and brings others into life.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
Well if you going to suffer for something might as well bring reward...
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
Well theres a good example for suffering for well doing...

And what is it He did...died for the Penalty of our sins in His flesh...took on the punishment of the unjust.....WHY? So that He might bring us to God.

He was put to death in the Flesh....recall the passage:

having been reconciled by His death, how much more shall we be saved by His Life......

Is the passage talking about heaven when one physically dies to leave this earth as to being saved by His Life?

Or being saved from circumstances in this life, like those He just addressed in the chapter?
Yes you got it!šŸ˜ those Circumstances He just addressed.

So Back to being put to death in the flesh
For our Penalty of Sin....that He might bring us to God....

Well that's where the quickening comes in...because He was Quickened..(He's Alive, He resurrected) And He lives forever ....

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
My opinion here
But by this same resurrection power, or quickened Spirit He preached in Noah's time-meaning the word was alive....
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
He preached by this alive Spirit and only 8 souls were saved through water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
Ok here's the hard part....what is the like figure (8 souls saved through water)or because Jesus preached by this alive Spirit 8 souls were saved by water who heeded to Him.

But what is it to save us from??? Not the wrath of God, but of man...meaning you may go through it but with God you will be brought out.

Yet, wait He reminds us...in my opinion that it's not ritual washings to get the Dirt off externally.....therefore what's the opposite?
but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Ah ha, it's about internal...(recall earlier sanctify the Lord in your heart and always be able to give an answer to the hope within you) for this Baptism is an answer of a good conscience toward God

So this Baptism is internal because it's about the conscience. One cannot see the conscience which makes it Spititual.
But the outcome is victory.

But the main part is what about "by the resurrection of Jesus Christ"

Recall the first Adam was made a living soul, but the last Adam a quickening Spirit....

Therefore the answer to the Thread's title
The Baptism that saves us now is .....da ta da ta...

"Christ's quickening Spirit"

...for what happen by means of His resurrection? He was quickened...

He did say the words He spoke were Spirit and Life...

But alone they save no one.....it's responding to His life quickening word..
through ..........I bet the Father...

22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
Here we find that where He sits/is He is in control...He has say over everything

Recall to sanctify is to set apart...it's a process....For one can be called unto holiness by receiving the Spirit...but He still has to grow in the word......

Recall this Fact:
2 Cor 4:16

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

In this very scripture above is the baptism..renewed by the Spirit....not by ritual washings...or traditions of man...

Traditions of men..make angry people..just look at the things you say...
Now why do traditions of men make angry people...

Because it's not about who you are trusting. And it should be.

People end up serving the created thing more than the creator. Which then gives them right in their own mind to judge you by what they do and don't do. And as it should be, a righteous judgement by the Spirit of God.

Why do people believe as A Christian we do not have to hold our tongue when talking to people who believe different......... we are judging others from our standards .

The reason for Holy wars...and slavery in America...we can be the most dehumanizing ....when We trust in what we do....rather than God and His Christ- annoiting word.

So do you think a ā€œburialā€œ a ā€œplantingā€ a ā€œraisingā€ is NOT water baptism? So Paul was describing Spirit baptism in Rom 6? Really? I hope thatā€™s not what you are saying. I would like to think that we can agree that the description in Rom 6 is what happens to a person when they are buried and raised in the waters of baptism.. Sure dont look like ā€œSpirit baptismā€

Yes i know. Look at acts 19. Look at all the people today who are baptized for an ā€œoutward sign of an inward grace that has already taken placeā€. Meaning they were ā€œsavedā€ before they entered the water. The problem isā€¦.The Bible says just the opposite so NO these people are not baptized ā€œinto Christā€œ. They are just baptized into some man made church like the baptist church or something else.

This is true there will be many at the judgement who thought they were right but really they were wrong.

Paul does not even mention the word Spirit in Rom 6 and you say he is discussing Spirit baptism. Please show me ALL of the examples in the NT of people being ā€œbaptized by the Spiritā€?
The only mention of Spirit in Gal 3 has to do with the miraculous and with the blessing of Abraham which we are told was given by the Spirit. Baptism in the NT is water unless the context demands another meaning.
Acts 2 water, acts 8 water twice, acts 10 water, acts 16 water, acts 18 water, acts 19 water, acts 22 water. Please show me all the examples of Spirit baptism. If it is the primary mode of baptism then it should be everywhere.

really? Do you have to sacrifice animals? Why not? because you are not under the covenant that commanded it. Hogwash huh?

If you mean ā€œold covenantā€ as jews only then I would agree but if you mean ā€œeveryoneā€ as just anybody thenā€¦.WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT? Verses please!!!!!

Commanded who? Everyone? No! The message of Jesus and John the Baptist was ONLY for the JEWS.
Mat 10:5,6. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
This message was forbidden to the gentiles.

Hahah. The jailor! The jailor was a gentile and new nothing of Jesus. Why donā€™t you read past acts 16:31. Why does everybody stop at that one verse? Lets look and see if he ā€œaccepted jesusā€œ like the thief?

vs 32. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
What? They had to preach to the man! Why? to tell him who jesus was and what he needed to do to be saved. Did Jesus preach to the thief?

Vs 33. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway
The man, after hearing the gospel preached, repented and then IMMEDIATELY, in the middle of the night, was baptized in water. Did the thief do this? Why do this? What did jesus command? Go preach the gospel, he that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Mk 16:16. Paul is just doing what Jesus had commanded. Its a shame you wont do the same. Did the thief EVER hear the great commission? No.

Vs 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
When does he rejoice? Before or after baptism? When does the text call him a believer? Before or after baptism?
Oh yeaā€¦but all he had to was believe in a Lord he had no knowledge of. Yes! Great doctrine you teach there. None of this above looks anything like the thief on the cross. Why? Because he lived under a different covenant.

Only born again believers, who are saved, need to be water baptized.

We are saved; born again, when we believe, in which The Spirit baptizes us into Christ.

  • Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Luke 8:12

In this initial baptism we are joined with Christ and are one spirit with Him, (1 Cor 6:17) having been born again. The Spirit is the Baptizer in this baptism.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one bodyā€”whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or freeā€”and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:13

Now that our sins have been removed and we have been cleansed, which in which we have a new nature, a ā€œnew wine skinā€ we are ready to be filled with the Spirit.

The three separate and distinct baptisms are typified by the Spirit through Paul in his letter to the Corinthians.

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 1 Corinthians 10:1-2

  • all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

We are baptized into Christ, by the Spirit when hear and believe the Gospel, in which we are seperated out from the domain of darkness (Egypt) into His kingdom; the kingdom of God the kingdom of His dear Son.

At this point are still in the world (Egypt) but not ā€œofā€ the world (Egypt).

When we cross the Red Sea, (water baptism) we are proclaiming we are committed to following Jesus (Moses) down into death, having died to this world and have committed to live in the newness of life; our new life in Christ.

This commitment can only be made by a born again believer who is in Christ.

Here's a question
Who quickened Jesus?

Interesting enough He was Flesh/ but was also Spirit

We know death can't hold Life..
We know He dis say father why have thou forsaken me...

This is getting good

The Baptisms that saves us is the Life of Christ(His quickening Spirit)

The Spirit in Ephesians 1:13 is the earnest deposit..another words you get a taste now.....by getting heaven in you now...through Him.

Having life now through Christ's quickening Spirit certainly will give you a good conscience before God.

Therefore walking in the newness of Life
As an eye for an eye....another words that song....when I move you move....or draw near to me and I'll draw near to you...

Our washing everyday is to remain in the teachings of God.....

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Good Mornting all God's beautiful people..

I wanted to take some time to look at how a passage can read....

So First it's best to post 1 Peter 3 again.

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

a) What are all those numbers?
b) Why is the epistle chopped up into separate "verses". It wasn't written that way.
3) Why the strange Englyshe? The epistle was written in Koine Greek, the common language of the Mediterranean world at that time.

Here is a far better rendition...

In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands. Then, even if some are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without a word by the way you live when they see your pure and reverent conduct. Let your beauty not be externalā€”the braiding of hair and wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothesā€” but the inner person of the heart, the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious in Godā€™s sight. For in the same way the holy women who hoped in God long ago adorned themselves by being subject to their husbands, like Sarah who obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You become her children when you do what is good and have no fear in doing so. Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as the weaker partners and show them honor as fellow heirs of the grace of life. In this way nothing will hinder your prayers.

Finally, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, affectionate, compassionate, and humble. Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead bless others because you were called to inherit a blessing. For

the one who wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit.
And he must turn away from evil and do good;
he must seek peace and pursue it
.
For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the Lordā€™s face is against those who do evil.

For who is going to harm you if you are devoted to what is good? But in fact, if you happen to suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. But do not be terrified of them or be shaken. But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess. Yet do it with courtesy and respect, keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it, than for doing evil.

Because Christ also suffered once for sins,
the just for the unjust,
to bring you to God,
by being put to death in the flesh
but by being made alive in the spirit.

In it he went and preached to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. In the ark a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water. And this prefigured baptism, which now saves youā€”not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience to Godā€”through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who went into heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels and authorities and powers subject to him.

NET v2.1

In these verses....it's how people could be brought into obedience to the word through
Subjection and chast conversation

Yet the appareling should be of the Hidden man of the heart-that which is not corruptible-meek, quiet Spirit
What is "chast conversion"? Or "appareling"? Or "where is the Lord God to be sanctity?" And more...

It strikes me very odd that you quote from the King James translation (not the easiest one to understand for people living today) yet your command of English seems to be lacking.

"...when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ..." (1 Peter 3:20-21)

The fact that St. Peter mentions eight people were saved by the waters of the deluge is not just a coincidence, for baptism is the anti-type of the waters of the deluge. As St. Peter says, the waters of baptism now cleanse not our flesh, but our sin. (cf. Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, Titus 3:5) Hence its effect is not on our flesh (i.e. removal of dirt), but rather on our interior.

The early Church saw the connection between creation and the completion of the New Creation on the day of Christ's resurrection, which they called the "eighth day." The eighth day signified the start of a new time in history via the resurrection of Christ. Thus, the symbolism of this eighth day was connected to baptism, whereby man becomes a new creation and participates in the death and resurrection of Christ. Baptism, therefore, births us into the eighth day, into the life and new time of Christ. It is also not a coincidence that circumcision was done on the eighth day...

"In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead." (Col 2:11-12)

"And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.ā€ (Luke 2:21)

If you took a trip to the Holy Land or any of the other ancient sees in Christianity such as Rome, you would notice many of the baptismal fonts are octagonal.

Here's another example, where St. Ambrose baptized St. Augustine in 387 A.D. in Milan.

In Christianity, matter...matters.

Only born again believers, who are saved, need to be water baptized.
The Bible tells us the born again process happens in baptism.
Rom 6. Buried with him in baptism and raised to walk in newness of life. When does ā€œnewness of life happen? After being raised out of the water. Its not very difficult to understand unless you have a false doctrine you will cling to regardless of what truth anybody shows you..
Col 2 tells us we are, again, BURIED with him in baptism (water) then raised with him having been ā€œquickenedā€. This means to ā€œbe made aliveā€. When doe this happen according to Paul? After being raised out of the water. If raised to walk in newness of life and being ā€œmade aliveā€ is not born again then I dont know what is. We are also told that it is in baptism that our sins are removed. What is born again? Its a new life free from sin. Can you have that and not be baptized? No. Not according to the Bible.

This will be long so Iā€™ll have to do this in parts.
