Baptism in the Spirit: The experience

You're wrong. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14:14, "If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unproductive."

I have spoken in tongues for 45 years, so why should I believe you? You clearly don't have that particular gift. Apparently the Bible hasn't given you all you need to know.
Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
1 Corinthians 14:6-9,11
I do not believe 1 Cor is going to help your position. You know that whatever comes out of your mouth is not a language the people around you can understand. So as we see above….you are just “speaking into the air”.

Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
1 Corinthians 14:19
This is Paul saying that you modern day tongue speakers are wasting your time. Whatever is coming out of your mouth is not being understood by all around you.

If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
1 Corinthians 14:23
Hahaha. This is exactly what happens with “tongue“ speaking today. Unbelievers see it and go…They are crazy!

If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
1 Corinthians 14:27-28
Im pretty sure you have broken this commandment some over the last 45 years. Have you had an interpreter all these years?

The God-given blessing was gibberish to those without understanding back then as well. For this reason, we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (Col 1:9 NKJV)
It wasn’t to those on Pentecost. Why? Because there was a language spoken for everybody there. What you spew out is not a language. Do you have an interpreter when you speak whatever it is you speak? Paul says you need one just in case.
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
1 Corinthians 14:27-28
All I ever see is people just blurting stuff out like the Spirit just made them do it. This isnt Biblical.
Paul said..
How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
1 Corinthians 14:26

It would great if more people had Pauls attitude.
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
1 Corinthians 14:19

Yes, speaking in tongues is a real language. As the Spirit gives the utterance, no training necessary.

Why was the Gift of tongues given? The answer is in there.

To witness the Gift of Tongues in action you need to place yourself in a location where it happens.

If you have any questions about the Gift of Tongues, I will do my best to answer them.
Tongues are all over the net or TV. I dont ever see tongues personally because Im not going into a Pentecostal church. I know where the “tongues” are and I know what they sound like. I could “be in a location” if I want.

The problem Is this….Like i said before, i have been around many really good Christians through the years and not ONE has ever been able to speak in tongues. Thats my problem…why do you get it and all the people Ive been around don’t. It comes from God? If just one could do it but they cant. The Bible tells us that “tongues will cease“ and they have.

What passages do you appeal to that tell you you need to speak in tongues? And do you follow the directions given by Paul in 1 cor 14?

I won't discuss this with you any further. You're like a child who didn't receive a gift like your sibling did, so you're pouty and jealous.

Tongues haven't ceased. Those of us who have received this gift of the Spirit speak in tongues regularly, as the Spirit moves us. Your denial has no influence on this gift. This discussion is over.

No I don’t challenge anything you write just the stuff thats not taught by the Bible. Like this…..The “pastor” that healed you was a woman? Thats an impossibility according to the Bible. A pastor/bishop/elder (they are all the same office) is to be the “husband“ of one wife. This disqualifies any woman from being a “pastor”.
minus she was a woman pastor if i need healing i dont care if it be woman or man that prays for me. 16 [a]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, [b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. God through the Holy spirit honored the prayer NOT the title . i could careless about the prayer language the Holy spirit interprets my prayers . both of you are beating your chest i have the superior doctrine..
when paul wrote work out your own salvation with fear and trembling that is what we all must do. as i told a lady friend of mine who is Pentecostal preacher. i never told her how wrong she was. i simply told her that belongs to you tongues etc not me.. she agreed were still friends

Those of us who have received this gift of the Spirit speak in tongues regularly,
NO not everyone has the same gifts. a person can speak in tongues still die go to hell :sorry2x i see so many place more emphases on the gifts than the giver of the gifts --------------> Jesus greatest gift is salvation

The man was made first, and Eve was made to be his helper.
Eve sinned first.
We are not to allow women to usurp authority over the man for those reasons.
curious eve did sin first but Adam was given the instructions wonder where he was .he ate of it also and sinned .. wonder why he didn't say NO eve do not listen to the devil hath God said and do not eat this

you must be a good Baptist women to usurp authority over the man :sohappy:topic

I am 77 years old and gave my life over to Jesus when I was ten years old. I was baptised (full immersion) by my request when I was twelve years old. I sought the gifts of the Spirit in my late teens, (not tongues) there are better gifts, and God still has not completed his work in me. I am still growing in faith while I write. The Lord has to complete His work in me, I still have to grow in grace, and I am far from being perfected. The work may never be complete until I reach heaven's glory. Thanks for reading.
:thumbsup :amen

That is a very strange riddle! It's also a poor attempt at justifying the King James version wording.
i understand what he is saying... question to you have you fully arrived are you complete in growth in grace and knowledge . a good 27 years into this walk age 61 i have yet to scratch the surface

Isn’t this typical! All I did was post Pauls direction and discussion on tongues and now I am a child. Dont you think that Pauls thoughts on this subject are some pretty important pieces of information? My problem was I thought this was a “Christian forum”? And I thought it is “Christian’s“ that are to love the word of the Bible. Jesus said….If you love me keep my commandments. Where do we find the commandments of the lord? The Bible! I thought “Christians“ loved the Bible. When you look at the many exchanges I have had it is increasingly clear that most on here ONLY love a little of the Bible. Only the few passages they have based their entire life on, but when I point out that the Bible has more to say on the subject I get rejected, blocked, etc. Sounds pretty childish. Now who is the child?

You wrote "When you look at the many exchanges I have had it is increasingly clear that most on here ONLY love a little of the Bible", but you, of course, are the embodiment of all truth, correct?

Sounds pretty childish. Now who is the child?

We are not all sinners in the sight of God, only those who have not accepted Christ.
yes and NO no were not the sinner we use to be--- justified but we will sin my little chidden i write these thing to you THAT YOU SIN NOT. but if you do {we will} we have a advocate

minus she was a woman pastor if i need healing i dont care if it be woman or man that prays for me.
I never said the woman shouldn’t be there praying.
16 [a]Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, [b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
The key there is….”a righteous man”. Who are the “righteous” today?
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1 John 3:7
How can one ”do righteousness”? (the overwhelming false doctrine on here is that you dont have to “do“ anything to be righteous)
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.
Psalm 119:172
We are righteous obviously when we do the will of God and not mans will. Mt 7:21

Peter tells us this…
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
1 Peter 3:12
God ONLY hears the “righteous”.
Here I am again pointing out some pretty important facts on this subject that come directly from the Bible and I know I will be hit with some label because what the Bible says is contrary to peoples erroneous beliefs. I post these passages so you or anybody else can use them and point out how the conclusions are wrong. That is called “Bible study”. You are free to tear it apart all you want. I just wont accept your opinion on it.
God through the Holy spirit honored the prayer NOT the title
Whos prayer does God ”honor”? Just anybodys? I have showed you that this is not the case. Feel free to correct my false understanding. Again…not with your commentary or opinion.
. i could careless about the prayer language the Holy spirit interprets my prayers . both of you are beating your chest i have the superior doctrine..
Is anybody wrong in religion?
when paul wrote work out your own salvation with fear and trembling that is what we all must do.
This does not mean…..everybody’s “Salvation“ is different. The Bible squashes that idea. Jude 3, tit 1:4.
We work out our own salvation in the since I can not save you and you cannot save me it is up to each person to live faithfully. Ez 18:20
as i told a lady friend of mine who is Pentecostal preacher. i never told her how wrong she was. i simply told her that belongs to you tongues etc not me.. she agreed were still friends
A lady who is a preacher? Whatever? This is exactly what I mean. God specifically condemns this but you obviously don’t care. Just as long as everybody feels good about themself.

You wrote "When you look at the many exchanges I have had it is increasingly clear that most on here ONLY love a little of the Bible", but you, of course, are the embodiment of all truth, correct?

The post speak for themselves. I post passages for all of us to consider and study just as I did with you and 1 Cor 14. Just like I do with everybody else. You completely rejected my efforts and you call me a child. The fact is….you don’t really care what the Bible says you only want your pet doctrines you have based your life on. When anybody challenges that, like me, they become a child for daring to do so.
