It shouldn’t. The Bible is pretty clear on tongues if people would just read and study.
For example…
We first see tongues under the new covenant in Acts 2. What were they? They were the specific languages of the audience being spoken to. They weren’t gibberish nonsense that not one person present could understand. So now the challenge is for others to show me in the Bible…..at what point did “tongues” become something other then a specific language the audience could understand?

Where did I say I speak in tongues?
I don’t know if you did but it sure seems like you are in support of those that say they do today.
I posted that TONGUES were a language people could understand and then you replied with this….
“The God-given blessing was gibberish to those without understanding back then as well.”
The fact is….No they weren’t gibberish to people in the early church. They were languages.

That is a very strange riddle! It's also a poor attempt at justifying the King James version wording.
When God created heaven and earth, he would not have stopped until it was perfected. That is why I said, "With God nothing is complete until it is perfected."

We my friend are a work in progress and we have a long way to go before the race is over and we receive the golden crown. So please, allow God to complete the work in your life, that he has begun in you until it is perfected.
.

Tongues haven't ceased. Those of us who have received this gift of the Spirit speak in tongues regularly, as the Spirit moves us. Your denial has no influence on this gift. This discussion is over.
You would be better seeking the gift of healing, or one of the other gifts.

look i dont care one way or the other i believe there is a gift of tongues .just not convinced its all the stuff spoken today plus i figure if i need the Gift God will give it to me

The post speak for themselves. I post passages for all of us to consider and study just as I did with you and 1 Cor 14. Just like I do with everybody else. You completely rejected my efforts and you call me a child. The fact is….you don’t really care what the Bible says you only want your pet doctrines you have based your life on. When anybody challenges that, like me, they become a child for daring to do so.

Obviously you can't discuss things in an adult manner. Personal insults show your true character. Until you can discuss the issue I won't continue this conversation.

Just so you know, I do not speak in tongues and have no wish to, I took my lead from Paul and trusted God to endow me with whatever gift is appropriate for me and my personality. I still say it was gibberish to many people.
Just to add, my father a Pentecostal pastor both spoke in tongues and interpreted, and everything had to be done in order according to Paul's teaching. :)

Your jealousy won't get you far. God gives gifts to His people as he wishes. He has given me the gift of speaking in tongues (and others). End of story.

Continue to walk in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ my friend, take your example from Him and you will do well. Remember, we are the clay, and God is the Potter.

I'm not jealous. To be honest, I would feel a bit of a plonker, especially if there was no interpretation.

Were tongues a language?
Just curious. What passages do you appeal to in order to come to the above conclusion?
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

so this could very well mean the ability to speak in other languages

i have heard a wide variety of teachings on tongues. my question to you is tongues more important than salvation . lets do 2. if one does not speak in tongues is there prayer heard . compared to the one wo prays in tongues Jude says buiding yourself up in your most holy faith praying in the Holy ghost" my paraphrase i pray as the spirit leads me that is my praying in the Holyghost

I'm not saying they were not proper languages, they obviously were because people understood their own language. All languages are gibberish to me, except English. :)
